Welcome
to
a series of educational lessons, designed to increase the literacy
of K-12 students. Using the racing industry as the vehicle upon
which the lessons are built, students can read and learn to apply
basic math applications to REAL world scenarios, read articles and
stories for building reading comprehension and analysis. These lessons
are designed to increase reading comprehension, critical thinking,
analysis, as well as basic math skills and are formulated to meet
existing Standards of Learning.
Topics revolve
around: race tires, budgets, mapping, engine/transmission calculations,
event attendance, product sales, commissions, sponsorships, advertising,
demographics, payroll, pit stop timings, temperature changes and
will
include: Addition, Subtraction, Division, Multiplication, Decimals,
Fractions, Taxes, Earnings, Interest, Income, Degrees, Time Zones,
DOT Laws, Supply/Demand, Cost of Goods Sold, Speed/Distance, Statistics,
Employment/Unemployment, Advertising/Media Value, Consumer Price
Index.
These REAL lessons are available free for home and classroom use.
